Unitary Executive Theory

One of the most striking comments made in the past two weeks was made in passing within a discussion of the so-called Theory of the Unitary Executive, currently being foisted on an unsuspecting public by the Bush Administration in its mad pursuit of power ... ostensibly to conduct the "war on terrorism." The comment was this: (paraphrase ... because I cannot find the direct quotation)

They are not advancing this theory with the idea to just to pass an enhanced Presidency off to the Democrats in a few years.

No, I am afraid not. Their intent is to rule America for the next generation or two and radically alter the nature of this republic. The underlying premise is that a substantial number of Americans believe that a radical change is now necessary, some because they are terrified of terrorists, some because they are terrified of social justice, and some because they want more. More what? Just more!
